First, We Are Human Beings. 
Let Us Start With That.

Eluned Hurn and John Rogers from Wales, UK, will join
their friends in Sarvodaya to take part in the mass peace
meditation at Anuradhapura on 2nd October. 

Eluned and John are founding trustees of the new charity
Sarvodaya UK, which has been established to support the
work of Sarvodaya and to cultivate relationships between
Sri Lanka and the UK.

They believe in Sarvodaya’s goal to
“shift the pyschosphere” (the field of human thought),
away from war and violence and toward loving-kindness. 

Eluned and John are shown here taking part earlier this year
with 650 young Sarvodayans from all ethnic groups in a
peace camp at Trincomalee.

Since that event war has erupted again in that region
and peace seems a distant hope.  A refugee in one of the
camps caused by the civil war was asked what he thought
was stopping peace amongst Sri Lankans and he replied: 
“First, we are human beings.  Let us start with that.”

This is the message of Sarvodaya to the world:  when we respect our own humanity, we respect that of others, whatever their beliefs or practices.  This allows us to awaken personally and thus lead to the awakening of all.
Only then can we confront our deepest fears. 

Fear = False Evidence Appearing Real. Our biggest and most prevalent enemy is invisible and it destroys us from inside by igniting the suicide bombs of the mind.  Right now humanity needs all of its inner resources of courage and ingenuity to tackle the global problems of environmental and community breakdown.   War is an obsolete way of resolving human differences.

Let the melting icebergs melt the hardness in our hearts and let us come together to repair ourselves and our Earth.

Sarvodaya has adopted a slogan from the US civil rights movement:
