Community Currency Project
The
first practical project to be supported by Sarvodaya UK is the
development of a Community Currency for Sarvodaya.
Community Currencies complement national currency and allow organisations
and individuals to exchange services where money is short. They
are created by the willingness of people to give and receive service.
This is very much in keeping with the Sarvodaya philosophy of
service and allows dedicated Sarvodaya staff to supplement their
income locally.
Senior staff will begin the process of designing the currency
at a two day workshop in Colombo in February facilitated by Sarvodaya
UK trustees, John Rogers (director of the Wales Institute for
Community Currencies) and Harsha Liyanage.
